When I started out trying to paint, I was convinced someone could instruct me, I spent lots of time trawling through the internet and looking at books.
This term at my art class I was set a project to paint a self portrait from a set of instructions, with materials all mapped out, a step by step guide, just what i had been looking for.
Not sure it was that successful just confirming what I now know, painting by numbers is a good way to learn but you need to find your own way.
Had a go with clay at my art class, the idea was to make a tile to hang in the garden, we made the tiles and then glazed them.
I was not happy with the glazing so I ended up painting it with acrylics.
Thought I would create a design based on my tile, not coloured it yet but I have made copies to share round the class, looking forward to see what others make of it.
Another term at artclass and we have been looking at art inspired by circus, had some great fun working with vintage photographs and some rapid scribbling, trying to create the energy of circus clowns.
This term at my art group we have been looking up at the skies, trying lots of different media, pastels acrylics watercolour mono printing and lots more.
We started sky diaries looking up everyday from the same viewpoint well worth doing just to appreciate the changing skies.
Looking at negative and positive space, in my art group last term , I had to have a go at a cutout, loads of respect to the artist creating cutout, this took me about 4 hours and it’s not that complicated.
Last term my art group looked at the 6 elements of art, how they are used and how they work together in art, we all took different motifs to illustrate them, some good learning to think about when making art.
Spent a wonderful day painting with Chris Guest in London. A first for me painting all day from a model, picked up a new approach to painting , a few tips on materials and how to mix candy floss pink. All in all a good day.
Thanks to Chris for his instruction, I have gesso and board ready to have another go. Just need to find me a model with candy floss pink hair.
Just finished a short term at art class, closing for the summer.
This term we looked at the senses and the parts of the body we use for them ears, noses, eyes, lips and hands looking at the anatomy and how they fit into the face really good stuff, if like me you like faces.
we made some 3D heads from dough, morphed animals into faces and faces into animals, sketched each others bits and looked at cartoons and how the artist simplify the features to capture expression.
I have planned two final pieces to complete over the summer, one painting which I have posted my sketch here and a set of 5 tarot cards covering each of the five senses and hinting at the sixth.
Thanks for dropping in.
As part of our artclass pathways project we have been looking a maps and as a warm up exercise we took a square of map and extended it. Hoping to improve on my first attempt I had another go. started by leaving out the map square but in the end decided to include it.
Been working on my art class pathways picture for a few weeks, this one has been a real journey, even with all my planning it kept changing direction , after the finish it made one final turn, l guess knowing where you are going in your pictures is not always straightforward.
I framed it up now so there’s no going back.
