Our art-class tutor is always throwing in different ideas this week we worked with Autumn leaves and wax crayons, not really considered using wax crayons but they are great repelling water colour paint and adding a wonderful; texture to your painting.
Looking forward to this weeks leaves home work.
Good to be back at art-class this terms class is about adornments and we have started with Angie Lewin as inspiration for natures adornment.a few ideas l have been working on.
Ever since I started this painting lark, I have been looking for sites on the internet that give good advice, I have found many sites but Will Kemp art school is just brilliant great writing humour and so much info you cannot fail getting started on the right foot.
So if like me you are just starting out get over to Will Kemp Art school
A big thanks to Will for providing this resource.
Started this one before I went on holiday, returning to it I am not sure where its going so I have put it on hold.
Used an electric pink ground after seeing a vid where the artist used Orange, I think its added to the feel of the picture.
Credit to Benoit Paillé for the photograph I used as reference.
Thought I would have a go at something with a bit of a storyline instead of just finding a face and painting away.
First I thought I might try using a track of music something from Mr Bowie. while looking up the lyrics I found a connection to the book and film 1984 so using a few stills from the film as reference I developed an idea.
Trying still to keep my painting loose, scratched out a composition and started to paint.
see my progress as I reworked this a few times to where I am now, finished I think…
I thought I had got my act together with this painting lark, but my latest efforts have not gone so well, three attempts at this image and I finally have something I am starting to be pleased with. As I said good and bad here is my progress with this.
Trying too hard so painted it out and started again.A bit bigger in the frame this time, didn’t take any progress shots but ended up painting it out.
This week at art class we looked at colour and the work of Brian Cook.
spent some time discussing how he uses colour and mixing a colour palette from one of his pictures, using red, blue, yellow, black and white gouache yet another media I had not used before, it sits mid way between water colour and acrylic.
we are now starting to think about working up our own pictures.
