Credit cards

Back at my art class and trying something new again. This week we were painting with credit cards, pushing scraping and dragging the paint around. Took me a while to get used to using this cumbersome little bit of plastic but I think l started to get it in the end. Using the card and a loaded brush dragging it over the paper worked well, wearing gloves is a good idea as it does get a bit messy, some finishing touches with a brush and some enjoyable splattering; I think it worked out ok.

Stop to sketch

Up to now I have never made time to sketch while on holiday , this year I set out to change that making a little time to stop and sketch.

After you get over the strangeness of getting your sketchbook out in public, making time to sketch and not to just grab photographs, makes you more aware of the place even if it’s not always captured in the sketches.

Got to get into the habit of doing this more as it’s more personal record of the places you visit, I am sure they will help me remember if I want to make paintings later.

Got there

Been working on my  art class pathways  picture for a few weeks, this one has been a real journey, even with all my planning it kept changing direction , after the finish it made one final turn, l guess knowing where you are going in your pictures is not always straightforward.

I framed it up now so there’s no going back.

Drawing days

Attended a one day workshop Drawing with Confidence, hoping to pick up some new stuff to help me with my drawing.

Some good advice on sketching landscapes, looking at the shapes and tone without getting lost in the details.

Discovered some new pens in shades of grey to add to my nice to have equipment list.

A good day sketching with others is always a pleasure.

Pathways

Back at art class and this term we are exploring pathways, started by looking at how line and colour create depth in pictures.

A few artist to look at and draw inspiration Philip Hughes, Karrie Kilpatrick, Hundertwasser, Grant Haffner and others.

A template to think about how line works in a picture and a attempt with some of our own.
