Skies

This term at my art group we have been looking up at the skies, trying lots of different  media, pastels acrylics watercolour mono printing and lots more.

We started sky diaries looking up everyday from the same viewpoint well worth doing just to appreciate the changing skies.

Sixth sense

I have been working on my art class summer project Senses.

I had the idea of creating 5 tarot like cards one for each sense, trying to add a little twist to each illustration Sight being blindfolded  in the dark and Smell being roses and something rotting in a bag, I guess you get the idea.

The sixth sense is just suggested by a downturned card and the tarot.

Thanks for dropping in.

Art class on show

Alice’s art class is having an exhibition, going to put some of my work up, please drop in if you are local and want to see what the group get up to .

Planning

Planning a painting for my artclass project, started with a sketch in my book and moving onto a larger effort on paper, I am trying some really grungy techniques splatter runny paint and torn tissue paper,  under painting started it will be fun seeing where this one goes.

Flowers!

Yes its come to this, I am now painting flowers! It’s all part of my art class as we explore still life and sophisticated primitives. Flowers floating in water so there was a nice little twist that turned out very challenging.

Quick sketch with watercolours and gouache in class and a longer study using acrylics, I am going to try some acrylic gloss with this to see if it enhances the feeling of the water.

Back to class

Started back at my art class this week, going to be looking at sophisticated primitives, the work of David Jones and others, not sure where this is going to take us as a warm up we were all given the same starting point to develop a picture, it will be interesting to see everyone’s efforts.

Wax Crayons clingfilm and salt.

Our art-class tutor is always throwing in different ideas this week we worked  with Autumn leaves and wax crayons, not really considered using wax crayons  but they are great repelling water colour paint and adding a wonderful; texture to your painting.

Looking forward to this weeks leaves home work.

Blue and white

This weeks art class we looked at  blue and white china, the Willow pattern and the work of Grayson Perry. we started just painting from the Willow pattern with the aim to develop a twist on the theme, I don’t think my head was in the right place for this and It didn’t really go anywhere, later I worked on a few ideas and  considered making a twist on the  Japanese wave.

I put it all down and started to look a bit deeper at Grayson Perry s work, I liked his twist on blue and white using yellow and I liked  how he uses text in his work, so  one thing followed another and I made a portrait  of him.

Baroque Adornments

This week we looked at body adornments and jewellery,  working from the art work of artist Azza al qubaisi .

I started with a piece of jewellery and ended up with a piece of baroque design not sure its a finished piece, but it was fun and interesting to do.

I learnt something too if you are using water colours and charcoal don’t use any fixative until you have finished.
